Lea is a village on the A40 about five miles south-west of Newent, just inside Herefordshire to the south-east of Ross-on-Wye. Part of the parish, including the church, was a detached piece of Gloucestershire until it moved to Herefordshire in 1844. St John the Baptist's Church, with its tower and spire, holds a marble font from around 1200 that was made in southern Italy and given to the church in 1909.
Lea is a lively village for its size, with Lea C of E Primary School, Lea Stores, the Crown Inn and Lea Village Hall, as well as the Oh My Goat ice cream shop. Its position on the A40 puts it within easy reach of Ross-on-Wye, Gloucester and the Forest of Dean.
