Directory Listing Policy

1. Purpose

Discover Newent is an independent community directory that helps residents, visitors, community groups, charities and businesses find local services, organisations, events and points of interest in Newent and the surrounding area.

Our aim is to support the local community by providing accurate, accessible and useful information.

2. How listings are added

Listings may be added to Discover Newent through:

• direct submissions from businesses, organisations and individuals;
• publicly available information from official websites;
• information from public records, government sources, social media profiles, publicly accessible directories or other reputable sources;
• community recommendations and local knowledge.

Including a listing does not mean that Discover Newent endorses, recommends, accredits or is affiliated with any organisation or individual.

3. Accuracy of information

We make reasonable efforts to ensure information on the directory is accurate when it is published. However:

• information may change without notice;
• we encourage businesses and organisations to tell us about anything that is out of date or wrong;
• we cannot guarantee the accuracy, completeness or availability of any listing.

Where errors are identified, we will aim to correct them promptly.

4. Corrections and removal requests

To correct, update or remove a listing, email dn@discovernewent.co.uk or use our contact form. We aim to respond within 10 working days.

Listings about individuals. Where a listing relates to an individual, for example a sole trader, childminder or therapist trading under their own name, we will remove it on request unless we are legally required to keep it.

Organisations and public services. For businesses, organisations and public services we will consider removal requests case by case, and may:

• remove the listing;
• amend the listing; or
• keep the listing where there is a legitimate public interest in providing the information.

Our decision will take into account accuracy, public benefit, community value and the nature of the request. We value good relationships with local organisations and will always try to reach a fair outcome.

5. Claiming and updating listings

Businesses and organisations are encouraged to claim their listing and send us updated information. Claimed listings can include:

• a business description;
• images and logos;
• opening hours;
• contact details;
• website and social media links;
• special offers and announcements.

We may ask for proof that you own or represent the business before making changes.

6. Community and not-for-profit listings

Community groups, charities, public services, schools, healthcare providers, places of worship, sports clubs and not-for-profit organisations may be listed to help local residents and visitors. These listings may be added from publicly available information even where we have not received a direct submission.

7. Content we will not publish

We may refuse, edit, suspend or remove content that:

• is unlawful, defamatory, abusive or misleading;
• contains false or inaccurate information;
• infringes intellectual property rights;
• promotes illegal activities;
• is harmful to the community or to the reputation of the directory.

8. Featured listings and advertising

Discover Newent may offer enhanced, sponsored or featured listings and other advertising opportunities.

Featured listings are clearly marked ★ Featured and may appear above other results in searches and category pages. Paying for a featured listing does not affect whether a business or organisation is included in the directory, and anyone can be listed free of charge.

9. Disclaimer

Discover Newent is an information directory only. We do not guarantee the quality, availability, suitability or performance of any business, product, service, organisation or individual listed. Please make your own enquiries before using any listed business or organisation.
