Taynton is a rural parish about three miles south of Newent in Gloucestershire's Forest of Dean district. Its parish church of St Lawrence is a rare example of a church built during the Commonwealth, after Parliament ordered a new one in 1650 to replace the original destroyed in the Civil War. The parish was also home to a 16th-century glassworks, remembered today in the name of the Glasshouse and its inn.
Taynton shares a village hall and recreation ground with neighbouring Tibberton on Taynton Lane, and also has its own Parish Room. It is a quiet farming parish of scattered houses, orchards and lanes, with St Lawrence's Church at its heart.
